Nekia Wright M.Ed. is an education specialist, sound healing facilitator, and app developer based out of San Francisco, CA with over a decade of experience teaching youth and adults in the US and abroad in Guatemala, Mexico, Australia, & Panama. During this time she also supported schools in developing student support team systems and policies and developed curriculum for national organizations. Her company, Ujamaa, has developed a project-based learning platform for schools and districts which teaches standardized academic skills through hands-on projects that empower youth to be creative problem solvers in their communities. Ujamaa also created the Black to Africa Fellowship to take black American public school teachers to study the ecology, history, and culture of African countries in order to develop lessons, curricula, and projects. Ujamaa is now developing tools to address the over-representation of black youth in special education systems across the US by assessing the impact that racism has on student learning as well as provide screening and intervention tools to ensure that these students receive the support they need without having to be diagnosed with a disability.
